Jolanda Kooijmans is a poet, painter and installation artist.
As an alchemist, I work from a hyper-alert connection with the chaos of our time: the great social and the small personal chaos. In my texts and images, form constantly searches for meaning and meaning for form. As a lyricist, I focus on the sensitive layer beneath our everyday experiences, our environments and our language, where motivation, pain and fear are located. I dig it up in sparkling nuggets.
History is important, old stories, archetypes, old beliefs. What can we still use and what has lost its effectiveness? What will take its place? Nature (landscape) is important, processes of growth and decay, vulnerability. Because I grew up in the countryside, in nature that lost all its obviousness as I grew older. There is no place for sadness about that, it seems at the moment, except in poetry.
In 2025, her new poetry collection Addertje - 'Sparkling poems about evil' - will be published by Uitgeverij Koppernik.
